The VLCC GEM NO.5 is being escorted and docked by six Z-Tech 30-80’s tugs including Ted C. Litton, Apollo and Mercury. These 6,700 HP tugs have a bollard pull in excess of 80 metric tonnes. Suderman & Young has been serving the ship assist needs of our customers in Texas ports for over a century.

The dredger Waymon L. Boyd suffered a major fire and explosion Friday morning in the Port of Christi Ship Channel, injuring two crewmembers. Four crewmembers remain missing, and local firefighters evacuated four additional personnel for medical treatment.

In March 2019, Suderman & Young Towing Company took delivery of the Z-Tech® 30-80 tug Ted C. Litton constructed by Gulf Island Shipyards. This is the first of five Z-Tech® 30-80 tugs ordered by Suderman & Young. These tugs will be operated in ports on the Texas Gulf Coast.

In April 2018, Suderman & Young Towing Company assisted the VLCC Nave Quasar safely into berth at the Enterprise Products terminal in Texas City. This was the first VLCC to enter the Texas City ship channel and only the second to berth in Texas. The Nave Quasar was assisted by five Suderman and Young Towing Company Z-Tech tugs which included two Z-Tech 30-75 (Thor and Lamar) and three Z-Tech 24-60 escort tugs (Neptune, Oceanus and Poseidon). These Five Z-Tech tugs have a combined bollard pull 330 metric tonnes.

On January 14, 2018, Suderman & Young Towing Company assisted the tall ship ELISSA one of the oldest sailing ships today. Launched in 1877 the ELISSA is designated one of “America’s Treasures” and a National Historic Landmark. The 4300 HP Z-Drive tug JESS NEWTON built in 2001 was used to move ELISSA to Brady Island in Houston, TX. for maintenance.
